There are demons in our world, and I love them

I do not often review paranormal romance, so this time I'm going to highlight a complete series for you:

The series is set in Las Vegas and centers around Harper Wallis and Knox Thorn and their family and friends. The Dark in You refers to the dark entity that lives inside these characters — their demon.

Demons come in all shapes kinds and forms. There are imps, sphinxes, hellhounds, hellcats, even hellhorses, but also succubi and incubi, harpies, and even archdemons. Each demon has abilities that come with their kind but also have some awesome — sometimes scary or freaky — gifts of their own.

Living with a powerful, ruthless, and dark predator inside isn't easy, so demons have a psychic anchor who helps them keep their demon in check. Anchors usually become close friends and sometimes lovers, but they don't have to because their bond isn't emotional or sexual. Demons can also have a (life)mate and the ultimate sign of commitment is a black diamond ring.

Currently, there are seven primary books in the series, and I suspect there will be more. The first four mostly center on Harper and Knox. Harper and Knox are anchors but they also become mates. Since Knox is a powerful prime (demonic leader) and the only mated one, people fear him and want to get to him — even if they have to hurt Harper or their baby. Luckily both Harper and Asher are quite powerful themselves. In the first four books, we're introduced to lots of interesting side characters, most importantly Knox's sentinels and Harper's friends.

Book Five has hellhound and sentinel Tanner and hellcat Devon as the main characters. Since hellhounds and hellcats fight like... cats and dogs, we have some interesting dynamics going on, and I liked their story. I had one minor issue with it: especially during the intimate times, Tanner sounded like... Knox, which wasn't cool!

Nevertheless, I gladly continued with Omens. In this review, I'm going to focus on Book Six, with Khloe and Keenan in the spotlight.

Khloe is Harper's cousin and one of her closest friends. Keenan is one of Knox's sentinels.

She's the one thing he can't control . . .

Since Keenan's traumatic childhood he's made sure he's always in control. Of himself, and of the world around him. But Khloe drives him crazy. She's an imp, so getting under people's skin is basically her job description, but Khloe makes him - and his body - respond in ways he's never known.

Keenan is the mistake Khloe knows she shouldn't make. As an incubus, he's got an inside track into everything that makes her tick, and even though she's immune to his supernatural sex appeal, that doesn't stop her body - and her demon - craving him.

After a bet escalates the simmering tension between them it's finally game on . . . and then the game turns deadly serious. When a danger appears that could threaten the whole lair, Keenan's desperate to protect Khloe any way he can - but will she accept his claim, and can he accept the power she has over him?

I’m totally in love with the Dark in You world, but…

Like with Tanner in the previous book (Shadows), there’s something wrong with Keenan’s voice. Sometimes he is himself and sometimes he sounds like Knox.

I love the story, the danger, the demons' abilities. I love how tight-knit this group of people is, and I thoroughly enjoy the banter between the girls. I still can’t wait for Raini’s story (and what about Levi and Larkin?!) but I hope it will be less repetitive.

In Shadows, we learned Raini has Maddox as an anchor, but she didn't accept the bond because she loathes the descent of a fallen Archangel and his life's choices. Maddox doesn't seem to be prepared to let Raini go and has been a constant presence in her mind.

To save Khloe from death, Raini makes the ultimate sacrifice and it will put her in the power of one of the strongest demons on earth — maybe one as powerful as Knox.
