Cherise Sinclair is one of my favorite authors and with good reason. Not only is she knowledgable about the BDSM Lifestyle, her characters have depth and the stories are compelling and engaging. Beneath the Scars is no exception to this.
I've read the eBook before, but this is the audiobook review, I share with you.
Like many of Cherise's books this one is narrated in Duet by the talented Noah Michael Levine and Erin DeWard. They make a great team and are a joy to listen to.
Beneath the Scars
Masters of the Shadowlands, Volume 13

Narrated by: Noah Michael Levine, Erin Deward

Josie doesn’t need any help raising her son.
Pregnant at 16, Josie learned the hard way about men and their empty promises. She picked herself up and is raising her 11-year-old son. By herself. And that’s the way she intends it to stay. Unfortunately, her impressionable boy becomes fascinated by the scruffy, intimidating biker who lives next door.
The scars on Holt’s face are only the most visible of his wounds.
Out of the hospital after being attacked in his own damn house, Holt is coming to terms with the fact that his scars frighten people. Like his now-ex-girlfriend, who ran after one look at him. Like his redheaded neighbor, who hauled her boy away as if Holt was a serial killer. Fine. He’ll give the pretty bartender all the space she wants.
The Shadowlands will bring them together....
When Josie starts bartending in the exclusive, private club, she discovers her neighbor is a member. And a Master - a skilled, powerful Dom who can make her fantasies come true. Slowly, the firefighter breaks down the walls around her heart, teaching her how to trust. How to love...
But when her son’s choices lead to disaster, can their relationship survive?

Review
Overall 5 out of 5 stars Performance 5 out of 5 stars Story 5 out of 5 stars Holt has been a Shadowlands member and Master for a long time. He also has been playing the field. Josie is a single mom and so not looking for a man. These two are thrown together by a move, a little bit of fate, and a nudge in the right direction from Master Z (He just can’t prevent himself from playing the matchmaker). In true Cherise Sinclair fashion the book isn’t just the romance and the kinky times, this time we get a strong dose from reality in the form of Josie’s son, Carson, as he learns about his parenting, adjusts to a new school, and figures out who his real friends are. At the - very satisfactory ending - we get to see the Shadowlands crew in action when school administration is about to do Carson and his friends great injustice. Beneath The Scars is a beautiful story about love and looking beneath the surface, it also shows not all scars are visible to the eyes. I read this book when it was published and it’s even better a second time. Maybe it’s because I was listening (and Erin DeWard and Noah Michael Levine have done an excellent job again) or maybe it’s because I always catch more details and meaning the second (third, etc.) time. Anyhow, I will be looking forward to more from the Shadowland - like I’m dying to learn about Ghost - and until then I gladly reread an listen the previous ones.
